Pediatric Program

With the increasing number of mobility equipment requests among children and families, Alternatives in Motion has decided to introduce a new Pediatric Program. The goal of this program is to provide and maintain mobility among the adolescent community in West Michigan.

“It was an easy decision for us to incorporate this new program,” says Coleen, AIM’s Executive Director. “We’ll be able to fundraise and directly support children in the West Michigan community in need of equipment.”

According to a recent study conducted by the US Department of Education, children with disabilities who are unable to move independently, that learn how to use power mobility devices at a younger age, will have greater communication, social and cognitive development. Parents of children who use power mobility equipment understand the positive impact and perceive their children’s development to be more mature than the parents of children who do not use power mobility equipment.

“I’m very excited to move forward with this program,” says Matt Feighner, Marketing, Outreach, Development and Education (MODE) Committee Chair. “We’re hoping to take this program to the next level through fundraising and outreach initiatives.”
